Event: Meditation and shamanic drumming evening
Date: May 29, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
You are very welcome to join us for our next journey and meditation session.
We will begin with a short guided meditation and spend time on a shamanic drumming journey. No experience is needed in either as I will guide you through the process.
Estimated to be between 20,000 and 30,000 years old, shamanic drumming is considered one of the oldest methods for healing. Practiced in diverse cultures around the planet, this technique is strikingly similar the world over. The primary cross-cultural function of shamanic drumming is to induce altered states of consciousness for both journey and embodiment trances.
Shamanism includes the belief that the natural world has two aspects: ordinary everyday awareness, formed by our habitual behaviors, patterns of belief, social norms, and cultural conditioning, and a second non-ordinary awareness accessed through altered states, or ecstatic trance, induced by shamanic practices such as repetitive drumming. The act of entering an ecstatic trance state is called the soul flight or shamanic journey, and it allows us to view life and life’s problems from a detached, spiritual perspective, not easily achieved in a state of ordinary consciousness. Basically, shamanic journeying is a way of communicating with your inner or spirit self and retrieving information.
Your inner self is in constant communication with all aspects of your environment, seen and unseen. You need only journey within to find answers to your questions. Shamanic journeying may be undertaken for purposes of divination, for personal healing, to meet one’s power animal or spirit guide, or for any number of other reasons. The drum, sometimes called the shaman’s horse, provides a simple and effective way to induce ecstatic trance states and most novices report that they can journey successfully even on their first attempt.
We are a friendly and welcoming group, no experience in meditation is needed and we have plenty of first timers at each meetup. Meditation is open to all people of any age and physical ability. (the building is wheelchair accessible just let me know beforehand). While we are primarily an LGBT group we welcome our friends to share in our sessions.
Tea and coffee and excellent food are available in the cafe both before and after the session this adds a social aspect and a chance to talk about our experiences and get to know one another a little better too.
We usually end up with a waiting list so if you RSVP and can not come please mark yourself as not attending as you are holding a spot that someone will use.
If you feel the call, please come and share with us.
